What OG images are
An Open Graph image (og:image) is the preview image that appears when your URL is shared on social media, messaging apps, and link previews. It is one of the most impactful meta tags because visual content drives significantly more engagement than text-only shares. A well-designed OG image with a clear title and brand identity can dramatically increase click-through rates from social platforms compared to a generic screenshot or missing image.
Design tips for OG images
Use 1200x630 pixels for the best balance across platforms. Keep important text and elements in the center — some platforms crop the edges. Use high contrast between text and background so the title is readable at small sizes (mobile thumbnails can be tiny). Include your brand mark or logo subtly for recognition. Avoid putting critical information in the bottom 20% of the image, as some platforms overlay action buttons there. Test your image at both full size and thumbnail size before deploying.
